To fulfill the vision of being an Open Arms Community, First United Church actively seeks to create opportunities for Christian Fellowship and Care. These opportunities allow for God's Grace to create spiritual transformation, authentic community and loving service to the church and all people in need. We believe this life changing growth is best accomplished in small groups, which provide a safe place for people to connect with God, one another and to Jesus' church. It is in this type of environment that God works as people share life stories, express and receive acceptance, meet the needs of others and encourage personal growth.
Feed the Hungry - This small group is for those interested in spiritual as well as physical nourishment. The group focuses on outreach to the hungry in our community by providing a free pancake and porky breakfast the first and third Saturdays of each month.
Faithful Gardeners - This small group enjoys a simple supper, explores scripture and shares their passion for gardening. Look around the church grounds (especially in spring, summer and fall) to enjoy the fruits of their service. This group is open to all who love gardening or desire to learn more about gardening.
Friends who Care - Join this caring group whose ministry is grounded in Jesus’ command to love one another. It is the mission of this group to bring comfort and support to First Church members and friends who are hospitalized and to those who have suffered loss. Their studies range from practical care giving skills to biblical insight in to suffering and healing. The group meets the second Tuesday of each month from 11:30 am to 1:00 pm at the church. New members are welcome.
Women’s Fellowship - The Women’s fellowship group is open to any women who would like to gather for prayer, study, support, fellowship, food and fun. This group provides support to a variety of church ministries and missions. Gatherings usually occur during the day and sometimes involved local trips. Activities are scheduled on a monthly basis and include such things as: rummage sale, bible study, out to eat, cleaning the kitchen and so on.
Choir - This group makes beautiful music together. Members of this group, high school through adult singers, sing three and four part harmony. Besides having fun and learning together, the adult choir will share their gift of music in worship one to two times per month.
Solo and Ensemble - Can't find time to join a group! Use your musical talent in a special worship service. We will help you with the details. Fill-in musicians, accompanists, children and youth choir directors are also welcome.
Praise Band - Join musicians and singers to play the songs you hear on Christian radio. What's your instrument? Do you enjoy singing? We have a place for you. Music experience is recommended If you feel you lack experience, but would like to jam for Jesus, check out the "BE" Band.
BE Band - You can do it! If you like music, but need to build confidence, join us to explore the praise music songbooks for the first time. This is a low pressure, high energy group for junior high youth through adults. BE-lieve-you-can-do-it.
